SHAtter and Jailbreak AppleTV 2G Done Successfully with PwnageTool [Video] [Update 1x]

Few moments ago, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has sent a picture throw his twitter confirming that Apple TV 2G has successfully been SHAttered and jailbroken on iOS 4.1, as you know the SHAtter exploit has been discovered by Pod2g, also the same exploit already is being used in upcoming iPhone 4 , iPad and iPod touch 4G jailbreak (a.k.a Greenpois0n) on iOS 4.1.

AppleTV 2G SHAttered and jailbroken http://is.gd/fDAbc (not quite sure how to run apps yet!)
It makes sense that I conclude that the new jailbreak tool will see the light within little few days. We have to remind you again that if you are interested in the Apple TV jailbreak, so it's better to buy it early before Apple patches the discovered exploits.

Update 1: iPhone Dev-Team has just updated the SHAtter exploit post in their official blog, with a new video showing that SHAtter successfully tricked Apple’s new AppleTV 2G into restoring to a pre-jailbroken IPSW from PwnageTool too!
It’s confirmed…SHAtter can trick Apple’s new AppleTV 2G into restoring to a pre-jailbroken IPSW from PwnageTool too! Literally the only UI application on the ATV is Lowtide.app, but now the window is open for jailbroken apps of all varieties. (Just like the early iPhone days, the only apps you’ll see on the AppleTV will be jailbroken ones). In the meantime, here’s a video showing root access (via ssh) into Apple’s new product.

We will of course let you know once they are ready for prime time use. Stay tuned for that! [via Dev-Team]

Here's What's New in iOS 4.2 Beta 2 For iPad [Full Coverage]

iOS 4.2 beta 1 was released on 15th September then following the traditional two week schedule, Apple released iOS 4.2 beta 2 last night to bring unexpected features to iPad. We are listing all the features with full details below.
New Multitasking Animation for iPad
That's the most important and big feature in this beta release, the arrival of real Multitasking to the iPad & different from iPhone's one. It's based on having your current screen slide to left, while the new one will slide around it horizontally to get on the front. Here's a video to see it in action [via MacStories]:

Game Center Indicator in the App Store
Apple added a new feature in this beta to indicate whether this game supports Game Center or not, this feature appeared in iTunes 10.0.1 app store and now it comes to the mobile app store for both iPhone & iPad [via iSpazio]

New Youtube Upload Options
By default, when you upload a Youtube video from your iPhone or iPad it goes public to everyone but iOS 4.2 beta 2 adds a new feature which allows you to choose one of three options when uploading a video [via 9to5mac]

New iTunes icon
You may hate the new iTunes icon but Jobs love it, so the old iTunes icon is now gone while promoting "Connect to iTunes", the new one replace it now.

Improvements & Optimizations
The recently released iOS 4.2 beta 2 apparently does much to improve memory usage, with some apps like Safari reportedly using nearly 25% less memory than in iOS 4.2 beta 1 [via iPadevice]

Internet Tethering on the iPad
We already talked about this feature hours ago, Internet Tethering option might allow you to tether your iPad 3G's internet connection to another devices as a laptop, so you will be able to share your iPad 3G connection with your laptop via USB cable.
OK folks, did we miss something? Feel free to use the comment section below to share your ideas with others and tell us what do you think about this beta! More features coming in the next beta!

An Interview With the Vincent About GreenPois0n Jailbreak [EXCLUSIVE]

Ok, we are very close to see the new jailbreak tool GreenPois0n so I'm receiving a huge number of questions (i.e. Facebook page, and Twitter) about release date, untethered status of the new jailbreak tool. Also, we received questions about the new Cydia update, so we asked Vincent (known as @veeence) for a quick interview to answer all questions that being asked about Greenpois0n, Cydia and Ultrasn0w unlock, here's the full interview below.
Q1: At first, identify yourself? some people think you are the administrator of iPhone Wiki? Right?
No, I'm not the admin of the iPhone wiki. The guys over at Redmond Pie misinterpeted that. I follow the jailbreak scene very closely and read a lot about the exploits, vulnerabilities and payloads on the iPhone Wiki. On my twitter I tweet (and answer questions) about jailbreak related things. I did some minor things like porting the blacksn0w unlock to 4.0 beta's (with help of msft.guy).
Q2: What's SHAtter and how it works?
SHAtter is a bootrom exploit. It's very likely that it has something to do with the signchecking of the SHA-1 in the IMG3 files, but nothing is sure right now. Whether it's tethered or untethered is unknown yet. (my honest *guess* (!!) is that it will be untethered. see Q7)
Q3: What about Greenpois0n? Will it be the name of the new Jailbreak?
Originally greenpois0n is a set of tools that is designed to help hackers in their search for vulnerabilities and exploits. I'm not sure whether they are going to give the new jailbreak that uses the SHAtter exploit the name "greenpois0n". Would be kinda lame, though, greenpois0n is now widely known as "THE new jailbreak" so it might be good (to prevent confusion) to name it greenspois0n.
Q4: What are the compatible devices with this jailbreak?
All that are available right now. Though, users of the old bootrom units should use the 24kpwn and Pwnage 2.0 already as it is probably superior to SHAtter.
Q5: Who are the developers of the new jailbreak tool?
The Chronic Devteam (posixninja, chronic etc.) and I think guys from the iPhone Dev-Team (MuscleNerd) help them developing the jailbreak.
Q6: Will the new jailbreak really act on the bootrom and jailbreak devices forever?
Yes, a bootrom exploit means Pwnt for life (pwnt4life). The device will always be vulnerable to this SHAtter exploit, which will make it possible to jailbreak. The bootrom cannot softwarematically be updated by Apple. They will have to do a hardware revision (like they did with the 3GS after September 09). What the conditions of SHAtter are, are again unknown. I believe that this exploit is different from others in this way, so I don't want to speculate on that.
Q7: The most interesting question, Will it be Untethered or Tethered? (please give me a different answer from "don't know")
My source (which I can't reveal) says, untethered. I don't want to shout it out all over the web and my twitter because 1. I can't reveal my source and 2. It's not 100% sure yet. We'll have to see.
Q8: There's a tweet from MuscleNerd saying that @comex is working on userland exploit, any ideas what does this mean?
Comex has exploits in private for another usrland jailbreak. But since Chronic Dev came up with SHAtter, he probably put his exploits in his fridge (you know what I mean ;-) )
Q9: What about unlocking baseband 05.14 and 2.10? is it difficult of be unlocked?
Whether an unlock will be released for 05.14 and 2.10 is unknown yet. If there will be an unlock, it'll come from the iPhone Dev-Team (MuscleNerd). They just need another command that creates the right baseband crash to inject the ultrasn0w payload. I don't know if they have one in private.
Q10: Any info about the release date of new jailbreak tool? (any any info)
No, sorry. I could say a lot of things, but what would you be with that if it isn't the truth?
Q11: People are reporting crashes and errors in Cydia, will this be fixed in the new Cydia update?
Send your crashlogs to @chpwn and he will very likely take a look at it and, if possible, fix it :)
Q12: What are the new features that will be added to Cydia in the next update?
I read things like a rate/comment system and I really hope speeds improvements by hiding the themes or something like that. If you have suggestions, send them to @chpwn.
Q13: Will the new update be released with the jailbreak? before? after?
Maybe together, but I think those project are separate projects and will both see daylight when they're ready for release.
Q14: Will the new jailbreak tool be different from Spirit and Blackra1n?
Different in a way of exploits, yes. Different in a way of applying the jailbreak to your device, no. The SHAtter exploit will make use of a USB connection, so you will need a computer to jailbreak your device. I won't be as easy as JailbreakMe this time ;-)
You may notice in Q10 about release date, there was no answer yet! But now, we have got an answer about the release date from pod2g which confirms that it's coming in the next few days (may be less than a week). We would thank Vincent for accepting to answer all questions and giving all information about the new jailbreak, Cydia updates and the unlock.

the release date be count by days or week ?
@pod2g replied:
I would say days.
Another thing you have missed which confirms it's really soon. Chronic dev team member p0sixninja, the hacker behind GreenPois0n payload has just posted back SHAtter exploit on the iPhone wiki and saying The SHAtter Story Begins..

Skype and Facebook Integration, It's Really Awesome !

Facebook and Skype integration will be really awesome. AllThingsD has learned citing sources familiar with the situation, that the two giant companies are working on a deal that would integrate Facebook Connect with Skype accounts. By this big move you will be able to SMS, call and video call with your Facebook friends from Skype.

You can see in the below screen-shot the new features in action, you can enjoy the new features in the upcoming Skype 5.0 which expected to goes out within two weeks.
It makes sense to see this integration, as it will be a big move to the both companies. For Facebook, it will enrich its service by enabling new ways to communicate with your Facebook friends, as its chat service are limited compared to Google Talk. For Skype, this integration will allow it to complete access to the largest social network with over 500 million users. [via Mashable]

Great news for Google Voice users, specially if they owned an iPhone. TechCrunch noted that official Google Voice application is on its way to the iPhone by the next few weeks. We already reported you about some newly approved third-party Google Voice apps such as Google Voice Connect and GV Mobile+.

Till now we didn't get any confirmed information about the Google Voice app features, but we expect that it will include functionality that other third party apps don't. As you know that Apple had refused the official Google Voice application, as the app has no added value "duplicating features that the iPhone comes with (Dialer, SMS, etc)" , this was from the viewpoint of Apple. But every thing has changed after Apple published a set of new guidelines last September, telling developers which applications would not be allowed into the App Store. As usual we will inform you with any updates, stay tuned.

Few hours ago we reported you that Apple has already placed iOS 4.1 for Apple TV on their servers. Now the iPhone dev team has just sent an update to their official blog, announcing that SHAtter exploit which discovered by Pod2g few months ago, is working successfully to decrypt the 2nd-generation Apple TV iOS 4.1 keys.

It’s looking like SHAtter is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. Even though the new AppleTV isn’t yet in people’s homes, the firmware is available on Apple’s normal public distribution servers and SHAtter has been used to decrypt its keys! The main filesystem (“Mojave8M89.K66OS”) key for 018-8609-066.dmg is:

iPad 2G Will Be Thinner with Camera and Mini-USB Port?

An interesting report from Bloomberg claiming that Apple's 2nd generation iPad will be thinner and lighter in design with a camera and mini USB port in the second quarter of 2011 not in the first quarter as rumored before. The report also includes more information about the size, here's what's being said.
Apple Inc. may introduce its second-generation iPad in the second quarter of 2011, said Henry King and Kevin Lu, analysts at Goldman Sachs Group Inc, in a report dated 27 September. The new 9.7-inch iPad is targeted to be thinner and lighter, with an embedded camera and mini USB, according to the report. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. will likely be the sole supplier for the new iPad, said King in the report. A 7-inch iPad project hasn’t been finalized, according to Goldman Sachs.
Of course you may noticed that it says a 7-inch iPad (mini iPad) is has not been finalized. Goldman Sachs don't believe the rumored 7-inch iPad and expects that the new iPad will be 9.7-inch, but who knows? We have to wait to know the truth, stay tuned !

Official Press Release:
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA–(Marketwire – 09/27/10) – BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 -

Editors Note: There is a video and two photos available with this Press Release.

Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM – News)(TSX:RIM – News) today redefined the possibilities for mobile computing with the unveiling of its new professional-grade BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet and BlackBerry® Tablet OS.

Perfect for either large organizations or an "army of one", the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed to give users what they want, including uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia, while also providing advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support and a breakthrough development platform for IT departments and developers. The incredibly powerful and innovative BlackBerry PlayBook is truly a game-changing product in the growing tablet marketplace.

"RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world’s most robust and flexible operating systems," said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. "The BlackBerry PlayBook solidly hits the mark with industry leading power, true multitasking, uncompromised web browsing and high performance multimedia."

The Tablet You’ll Want to Take Everywhere

This beautifully designed and incredibly powerful tablet is ultra portable, ultra thin and super convenient for both work and play. Measuring less than half an inch thick and weighing less than a pound, the BlackBerry PlayBook features a vivid 7" high resolution display that looks and feels great in your hand. With such a unique mix of utility, performance and portability, you’ll want to take it everywhere.

The New Benchmark in Tablet Performance

At its heart, the BlackBerry PlayBook is a multitasking powerhouse. Its groundbreaking performance is jointly fueled by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and the new BlackBerry Tablet OS which supports true symmetric multiprocessing. Together, the abundant processing power and highly sophisticated OS enable the BlackBerry PlayBook to provide users with true multitasking and a highly-responsive and fluid touch screen experience for apps and content services.

Uncompromised Web Browsing

With support for Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, Adobe® Mobile AIR® and HTML-5, the BlackBerry PlayBook provides customers with an uncompromised, high-fidelity web experience and offers them the ability to enjoy all of the sites, games and media on the web. For more than a decade, the mobile industry has worked to bridge the gap between the "real web" and mobile devices through various apps and technologies and, in fact, a significant number of mobile apps today still simply serve as a proxy for web content that already exists on the web. The BlackBerry PlayBook closes that gap and brings the real, full web experience to mobile users while also opening new and more exciting opportunities for developers and content publishers.

High Performance Multimedia

The BlackBerry PlayBook features premium multimedia features to support high-quality mobile experiences. It includes dual HD cameras for video capture and video conferencing that can both record HD video at the same time, and an HDMI-out port for presenting one’s creations on external displays. The BlackBerry PlayBook also offers rich stereo sound and a media player that rivals the best in the industry.

BlackBerry Integration

For those BlackBerry PlayBook users who carry a BlackBerry smartphone(i), it will also be possible to pair their tablet and smartphone using a secure Bluetooth® connection. This means they can opt to use the larger tablet display to seamlessly and securely view any of the email, BBM™, calendar, tasks, documents and other content that resides on (or is accessible through) their smartphone. They can also use their tablet and smartphone interchangeably without worrying about syncing or duplicating data. This secure integration of BlackBerry tablets and smartphones is a particularly useful feature for those business users who want to leave their laptop behind.

Enterprise Ready

Thanks to the seamless and secure Bluetooth pairing experience and the highly secure underlying OS architecture, the BlackBerry PlayBook is enterprise ready and compatible (out-of-the-box) with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
. When connected over Bluetooth, the smartphone content is viewable on the tablet, but the content actually remains stored on the BlackBerry smartphone and is only temporarily cached on the tablet (and subject to IT policy controls). With this approach to information security, IT departments can deploy the BlackBerry PlayBook to employees out-of-the-box without worrying about all the security and manageability issues that arise when corporate data is stored on yet another device.

QNX Neutrino Reliability

The BlackBerry Tablet OS is built upon the QNX® Neutrino® microkernel architecture, one of the most reliable, secure and robust operating system architectures in the world. Neutrino has been field hardened for years and is being used to support mission-critical applications in everything from planes, trains and automobiles to medical equipment and the largest core routers that run the Internet. The new BlackBerry Tablet OS leverages and builds upon the many proven strengths of this QNX Neutrino architecture to support a professional grade tablet experience and to redefine the possibilities for mobile computing.

An OS Built for Developers

The Neutrino based microkernel architecture in the BlackBerry Tablet OS delivers exceptional performance, high scalability, Common Criteria EAL 4+ security, and support for industry standard tools that are already familiar to hundreds of thousands of developers. The OS is fully POSIX compliant enabling easy portability of C-based code, supports Open GL for 2D and 3D graphics intensive applications like gaming, and will run applications built in Adobe Mobile AIR as well as the new BlackBerry® WebWorks™ app platform announced today (which will allow apps to be written to run on BlackBerry PlayBook tablets as well as BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry® 6). The BlackBerry Tablet OS will also support Java enabling developers to easily bring their existing BlackBerry 6 Java applications to the BlackBerry Tablet OS environment.

Key features and specifications of the BlackBerry PlayBook include:
– 7" LCD, 1024 x 600, WSVGA, capacitive touch screen with full multi-touch
and gesture support
– BlackBerry Tablet OS with support for symmetric multiprocessing
– 1 GHz dual-core processor
– 1 GB RAM
– Dual HD cameras (3 MP front facing, 5 MP rear facing), supports 1080p HD
video recording
– Video playback: 1080p HD Video, H.264, MPEG, DivX, WMV
– Audio playback: MP3, AAC, WMA
– HDMI video output
– Wi-Fi – 802.11 a/b/g/n
– Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
– Connectors: microHDMI, microUSB, charging contacts
– Open, flexible application platform with support for WebKit/HTML-5,
Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR, Adobe Reader, POSIX, OpenGL,

– Additional features and specifications of the BlackBerry PlayBook will
be shared on or before the date this product is launched in retail
outlets.
– RIM intends to also offer 3G and 4G models in the future.

Availability

The BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to be available in retail outlets and other channels in the United States in early 2011 with rollouts in other international markets beginning in (calendar) Q2.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 4G with SHAtter Exploit [Video]

A few moments ago we surprised with a new video from the iPhone dev-team, The dev-team confirmed that the SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to a custom IPSW created specifically for this model. As you know the SHAtter exploit was developed by Pod2g (ex-Chronic dev). Dev-team also confirmed that the team is hard at work bringing us a brand new tool to make use of the exploit.
In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below! It’s all working: customized Preferences to show battery percentage, Cydia, root shell…the works!
Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues!

Thanks to the union between PwnageTool and Shatter to run the jailbreak on iPod Touch 4G, however there is no ETA (estimate to arrival), but we can say that we are really close to the first release of the new tool to jailbreak iOS 4.1. As usual we will keep you tuned with any immediate updates.
