ScrollingBoard Tweaks Your iOS Folders [Jailbreak App]

In case you are an iOS user, you may jailbreak your device to get the ability to tweak your folders and add some functions that Apple missed to do. Most of users use InfiniFolders or FolderEnhancer for unlimited folders on iOS 4 and InfiniDock for unlimited icons in the dock. However, with ScrollingBoard, you'll get both functions in one tweak with a better price!
Not only that, using this tweak you can have endless icons in the dock & folders; add new controls to the iPod touch; add the volume slider & brightness; add any add-on & widgets to the dock; get AirPlay icon in the dock and also you can use the scrollview mode. To be able to use this tweak, your device must be jailbroken, use our guide posted here to jailbreak your device on iOS 4.2.1, or Limera1n jailbreak on iOS 4.1 device.

Once your device is jailbroken, tap on Cydia and search for ScrollingBoard under BigBoss repository. The tweak is available for $1.49 only. [via iPhoneItalia]

This App Turns Your iPhone into a Radar Gun [REVIEW]

SpeedClock is a new app available in the app store that turns your iPhone into radar gun. Even though SpeedClock may be a useful tool, there could also be an accuracy issue in the app because of the estimation of distance the user must estimate. There is also possibly a greater accuracy issue for the iPhone 3GS becuase it doesnt have the gyroscope feature like the 4th Generation iDevices.
Despite SpeedClock's accuracy issue, in time it is probably going to improve and expand on it's goal. Here is the information from the developers of SpeedClock gave us from the press conference:
Employing the device’s three-axis gyro and basic trigonometry establishes distance. Speed and laps are measured using the motion sensing of the video camera, timing the interval between the object entering and leaving the frame. The app is compatible with iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4.
Speed Clock also has many other features including a speedometer, a timer, and a distance tool. The speedometer feature is basically meaasuring the speed of a moving object. It basically uses the camera to capture the speed of the moving object. Fortunately, this app comes with settings to set what speed to record it in and also the sensitivity according to your surroundings which improves the accuracy.
Another feature included in Speedclock is the timer. The timer also uses a motion sensor to detect when you start. This is extremely useful for anyone that takes track or any other activity that requires to job laps.
The last tool in SpeedClock is the distance tool. This helps the user know how much to stand back when using the speedometer feature. The app basically measures the iDevice's angle it is held in and the view it is seeing. This helps to determine how much of the scene the iDevice is viewing and how far away. This can then be used with the speedometer feature.
In conclusion, this app is extremely useful. Even though there could be some accuracy distortion, this app is brilliant for a brand new release. For just $0.99, this is definitely worth the investment!

Pull to Refresh Finally Comes to the Mail App [Jailbreak App]

As most of you know, the mail app on your iOS device requires you to go back to the main screen of the app just to press the refresh button. With the help of a new Cydia tweak, you can refresh your mail from anywhere in the app. Just like always, anything that uses system changes requires a jailbreak and Cydia.

To be able to use this tweak, you need a jailbroken device, you can jailbreak your iOS 4.x device using the latest version of Redsn0w by following our guide posted here then simply follow the steps given below.
This Cydia tweak, called Pull to Refresh for Mail, is free in Cydia under BigBoss repository. This very neat little tweak lets you drag your finger down your device screen to refresh your inboxes. This is similar to the feature in the Facebook and Twitter apps. Overall, this tweak is very useful and can overall save you the work of going back to the refresh button everytime you need to check for new mail.

HOW TO: Update / Unlock iPhone 3GS / 3G Baseband 06.15.00 with Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 on iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1 [Windows & Mac]

Well, here's the iPhone Dev-Team has just released redsn0w 0.9.6b5 to jailbreak iPhone 3GS and 3G on iOS 4.2.1 and update baseband to 06.15.00 which can be unlocked with the newly released ultrasn0w 1.2, the redsn0w 0.9.6b5 is available for both windows and mac users.
The new redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is out. It gives both Windows and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS. It fetches the baseband files directly from Apple for now (the only IPSW you ever point it at is the stock IPSW for the FW on your iPhone right now). There may be a long delay while it’s doing this (their servers are currently getting pounded).

WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!  PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.
  1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
  2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
  3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail).  You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).
For whom is this Guide:
This version of redsn0w 0.9.6b5 is developed ONLY for iPhone 3GS and 3G users who rely on unlock. Precisely,  This guide showing how to jailbreak and update baseband to 06.15.00 for ONLY iPhone 3GS and 3G who have unlocked devices.

Unsupported devices, what have to do:
iPhone 4 and 3GS users who don't rely on unlock, you can follow the same guide but with redsn0w 0.9.6b4 to jailbreak their devices on iOS 4.2.1, see guide Posted Here.

Here's the step by step guide:

STEP 1: Download redsn0w 0.9.6b5,  iOS 4.2.1 for your device(download links at the end).

STEP 2: Update to 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.

STEP 3: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b5,  and browse for iOS 4.2.1 firmware final version.
STEP 4: Now you have to select "Install Cydia" and "Install iPad baseband", and then click "Next" (in this step redsn0w will update your baseband to 06.15.00 which works with ultrasn0w 1.2)
STEP 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
STEP 6: At this stage you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode by holding “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

STEP 7: You will Get a Jailbroken Device on the latest iOS 4.2.1  and the unlockable baseband 06.15.00

STEP 8: This step is only for these devices iPhone 4, 3GS (New Bootrom), iPod touch 4G,  3G, 2G, iPad. While this is tethered jailbreak and whenever you want to do anything related to jailbreak like SSH your device, or running Cydia, you must first run your device in the so called “jailbroken state” on every reboot by using “Just boot tethered right now” option.

How to unlock iPhone 3GS / 3G on iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1 using ultrasn0w 1.2 :
This is the final step to get your device unlocked on iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1 with the newly release ultrasn0w 1.2, follow our full step by step guide Posted Here.

HOW TO: Update iPhone 3GS / 3G Baseband to 06.15.00 and Unlock it

Just a couple of hours back, the iPhone Dev Team has updated their carrier unlock tool which brings unlock for iPhone 3GS & 3G on iOS 4.1 or iOS 4.2.1 but unfortunately, you have to update your device's baseband to 06.15.00 to be able to unlock it.

Simply follow the steps below to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool 4.1.3 for Mac OS X.

STEP 1: Download PwnageTool 4.1.3 unlock edition from here.

STEP 2: Download iOS 4.2.1 for your device and also catch iOS 3.2.2 from here before it's removed (required to update the baseband). Then copy all the files to your desktop.

STEP 3: Now launch PwnageTool and select iPhone 3GS / 3G and point it to the original iOS 4.2.1 firmware you downloaded.

STEP 4: You'll now be asked if you want to update your baseband to the 06.15 version. If you are on 05.14 or 05.15 or higher you will need to do this to unlock. You do not need to do this for jailbreak only. Click on YES and then select Browse for IPSW and point it to iOS 3.2.2 you downloaded.
STEP 5: You'll have to choose some options as installing Cydia packages, custom logos and packages. Finally, hit the blue the build button.
STEP 6: You'll be asked to save the cooked firmware. Please allow up to 10 minutes.
STEP 7: When prompted if your iPhone has been Pwned before, we clicked No. It allows for a more thorough restore. Once done, follow the instructions seen on the screen to enter into DFU mode
STEP 8: Now, You will have to restore your iPhone to the jailbroken custom firmware by Clicking on the iPhone icon on the left sidebar of iTunes then hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” then release the alt button, Now Select the custom firmware created by PwnageTool and Let iTunes go in a bunch of steps.

STEP 9: Almost done, you can now unlock your iPhone 3GS / 3G by following my previous guide posted here.

Convert Your Springboard Icons to Retina Display!

As you all know, Apple has introduced retina display with four times as many pixels on the same screen size in the iPhone 4. Many app developers have already converted their apps and icons to support retina display, but others might have never converted them at all. Now with the help of Cydia tweaks, you can do it yourself!
To be able to follow our steps, you need a jailbroken device, you can jailbreak your iOS 4.x device using the latest version of Redsn0w by following our guide posted here then simply follow the steps given below.

STEP 1: You will need those Cydia programs for free by tapping into Cydia from your Springboard and touch on Search then install the following apps: iRetiner, MobileTerminal, and Erica Utilities.

STEP 2: Once you install these three programs from Cydia, launch MobileTerminal on your springboard.

STEP 3: Type in the following commands in MobileTerminal:
su (then press enter)
alpine (press enter again)
iRetiner (enter once more)
For some compatibility issue, if the letters do not show up on the screen when you are typing your password, continue typing and just press enter.

STEP 4: Now, you should reach a screen that looks like this:
Select option one by typing in 1 and press enter again.

STEP 5: By now, let the apps process. Your screen on your iDevice should look something similar to this:
This shows that the apps are converting to retina display. Once you are done, on the bottom of the screen there should be two options telling you whether to respring or not. Type down y to respring. You are now finished!
In conclusion, the iRetiner does improve the icons a lot. I have tried it myself and I see a huge improvement, even on the blurry icons! This is a a neat trick, but when you get new apps, you need to repeat this process. Even though that is a pain, look on the bright side, your icons look so detailed!

Enable AirPrint on Windows

We all enjoyed iOS 4.2.1 on our iOS devices: it brings multitasking for iPad, folder, AirPlay (sort of) and wirelessly iOS printing which is called AirPrint. But AirPrint is currently on Mac OS X only and works with some HP-printers. Mac users can use Printopia to enable AirPrint for non-compatible printers. Windows users can do the same now!

iOS 4.2.1 Compatible Cydia Apps

Everybody’s loving iOS 4.2 for iPad: it brought multitasking to the tablet, folders, AirPlay (sort of) and, ehm, AirPrint. We have already talked about this. As more users upgrade to the new iOS every day and jailbreak it using the latest version of Redsn0w, they need really a list of compatible Cydia apps and tweaks.
MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has published a spreadsheet on Google Doc showing the compatible Cydia apps, you can navigate to this link to check the list of apps & tweaks in Cydia compatible with iOS 4.2.1. If the color is green that means it works with no problems, if it's yellow it means that it have some problems. Any you know, red ones are unusable and not working. The list should be upgraded consequently when an app gets iOS 4.2.1 compatibility.

White Cydia Icon and Safari Crashing When Using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 to Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1?

After releasing iOS 4.2.1, the dev-team updated redsn0w to version 0.9.6b4 to jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 4G, 3G, 2G and iPad, I received many comments complaining about white Cydia icon and Safari crashing after jailbreaking their devices.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiScKvIfBU0iRJVtJ3UqftRcSPn06GtT329aTZNlj4IEtk3MIgl216koJIF5lA-6VqIKChdefESlQBRWHyBO6uR4-cFHII_I7nrGHgqDlZ3J4VUYk3IyJiM70NlSnrm7Zo3cBgOl1IMW4/s1600/4255_pic_resized.jpg
Therefore, dev-team has sent a new blog post update while the concept of a “tethered” jailbreak is pretty new to many people, let's check out this:
The notion of a “tethered” jailbreak is pretty new to many people, so here’s a quick rundown on what to expect:

1. If you’re on an iPhone3G, old-bootrom iPhone3GS, or non-MC ipt2g, life is easy. redsn0w installed an untethered jailbreak and so nothing below applies.
2. “Tethered” does not mean you cannot boot at all without PC/Mac assistance. If you have not installed any tweaks that hook into important programs like SpringBoard or CommCenter, your device will actually boot. However, jailbreak programs like Cydia won’t work (and Cydia may still have a white icon). Also, certain built-in apps that had to be moved by Cydia will fail (Safari being the most noticeable example).
3. If you’ve installed MobileSubstrate tweaks that hook into SpringBoard or other important programs, your boot will actually fail (you’ll get stuck at the Apple logo). You need to use redsn0w to “Just boot tethered right now”.

Remember, @comex and others are working on a way to untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak. Meanwhile, the above 3 points hopefully will make it all seem less confusing :)
You can avoid the reasons above to enjoy a jailbreak free of bugs (i.e. White Cydia Icon and/or Safari Crashing), but I highly recommend to wait for the comex untethered jailbreak on 4.2.1 which expected to be very professional (still no ETA). Let me know if you still facing these bugs or not via the comment section, stay tuned.

HOW TO: Save and Reinstall A List of Your Cydia Apps

In case you upgraded your device to a newer version of iOS and want to keep your Cydia apps, themes, tweaks, package and etc from losing, here's a few simple steps to save your Cydia apps list and reinstall it again to your device.
Save your Cydia apps:
  • Open Mobile Terminal (you can get it from Cydia)
  • Enter this command:  "dpkg-get-selections> installed-apps.txt"
  • Now we have created the Cydia app list file which called "installed-apps.txt" in " / var / mobile "
  • You are done, use your favorite SFTP client (Cyberduck (Mac OS X) or WinSCP (Windows) to SHH into your device).

Reinstalling your Cydia apps again:
Now I will submit the file called "installed-apps.txt" to "/ var / mobile", after reinstalling Cydia and Terminal, type this commands:
  • "su"
  • Type your password (default password: alpine)
  • "dpkg-set-selections "
  • "apt-get dselect-upgrade"
  • If you found problems type this command: "apt-get dselect-fix-missing-upgrade"
  • Now Cydia will automatically reinstall all your packages.

iOS 4.3 to Launch in December 13?

Apple is reportedly targeting mid-December for iOS 4.3 release and bring along something called “app subscriptions”. Apple and News Corp are currently working together to launch a tablet-focused news product, with John Gruber suggest that Apple is planning for a December 9th media event to introduce the new feature.

MacStories's being tipped from a reliable source that iOS 4.2.1 was delayed and released after its released date. Anyway, before the WiFi issues were discovered, Apple was already planning to release a new build of iOS 4.x in mid-December. Most specifically, they were planning for an iOS 4.3 release on December 13th, which is a Monday.
Here’s what we heard from a reliable source: when Apple didn’t know about the WiFi issues in the GM seed of iOS 4.2, the OS was scheduled to be released weeks before Nov. 22nd. Apple found out about the WiFi issues, released a second GM build and iOS 4.2 came out yesterday. It came out in November, but it should have been out in the first half of November. Anyway, before the WiFi issues were discovered, Apple was already planning to release a new build of iOS 4.x in mid-December. Most specifically, they were planning for an iOS 4.3 release on December 13th, which is a Monday.

Our source tells us it is unclear whether the “extra time” that was required to ship iOS 4.2 (actually, it’s iOS 4.2.1) will cause a delay for the rumored release of iOS 4.3 on December 13th or not. iOS 4.3 should, however, include bug fixes and maintenance of the code. It’s likely that 4.3 will also address the initial issues found in AirPlay, but we can’t confirm this just yet.
The source indicates that iOS 4.3 will bring the new subscription functionality needed for The Daily, with a possibility of more substantial cloud-based services coming at the same time. We'll be covering this, stay tuned!

[WARNING] Apple Has Put a Baseband Requirement on iOS

Apple has release iOS 4.2.1, but not alone, it has merged some traps with this version for jailbreakers and unlockers with the introduction of a baseband requirement for iOS starting from the newly released iOS 4.2.1. Precisely, if you are using Saurik’s server or tiny umbrella and trying to restore 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4, you will end up in recovery mode and tiny umbrella will not be able to pull you out of recovery.
TheBigBoss: It seems that Apple has decided to put a baseband requirement on iOS. So at this point, if you are using Saurik’s server or tiny umbrella and trying to restore 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4, you will end up in recovery mode and tiny umbrella will not be able to pull you out of recovery. In this case, you will have to restore 4.1 again or you will have to restore 4.2.1 stock and be tether jailbroken. (Of course, I recommend 4.1 and not bothering with 4.2.1 at all). If you are an unlocker, this is a no brainier. Do not update to 4.2.1 even to test it at this point.
So we highly recommend to stay on iOS 4.1 and wait until the situation became stable, specially who want preserve their unlock. for now you can check iOS 4.2.1 features form here, and its jailbreak guide with redsn0w 0.9.6b4 from here. Stay tuned

HOW TO: Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 iPhone 4, 3gs, 3g, iPad, iPodTouch with Redsn0w 0.9.6b4

Few moment ago we broke the news about the release of Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 4G, 3G and iPad with working MobileSubstrate, as we told you earlier that redsn0w 0.9.6b4  is based on GeoHot’s limera1n bootrom exploit.
The bad new is that right now, the redsn0w 0.9.6b4 is a tethered or semi-tethered jailbreak for some devices (i.e. you will lose your jailbreak every time you reboot your iDevice, so you have to follow the following steps every reboot to have a jailbroken device )

Untethered Devices:
  • iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)
  • iPhone 3
  • iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model)

Tethered Devices:
  • iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
  • iPhone 4
  • iPad
  • iPod touch 2G (MC Model)
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
NOTE: Those of you who rely on a carrier unlock stay away from Redsn0w and iOS 4.2.1.

GUIDE:

STEP 1: Download redsn0w 0.9.6b4,  iOS 4.2.1 for your device(download links at the end).

STEP 2: Update to 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.

STEP 3: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b4,  and browse for iOS 4.2.1 firmware final version

STEP 4: Select "Install Cydia" and click on "Next"
STEP 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
STEP 6: At this stage you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode by holding “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

MobileSubstrate Gets iOS 4.2.1 Compatibility; It's Cydia Turn Now

Some apps run code on the SpringBoard, so if any of it crashes, you're pretty much screwed. But, MobileSubstrate is a failsafe "SpringBoard.app" that will run in case of a SpringBoard crash. This saves you from SWOD's, etc, by temporarily disabling the code until SpringBoard reloads correctly. MobileSubstrate has been updated with iOS 4.2.1 compatibility.
You have first to jailbreak your device and enable SSH on iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w by following our guide posted here, then download this .deb pacakage from here and connect your device via SSH. Type the following in the terminal:
ssh root@[ip-address-ios-device]
Now login as root by entering “alpine” as password.

Once you have logged in, type the following:
dpkg-i / tmp/mobilesubstrate_0.9.3366-1_iphoneos-arm.deb
By the news about iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak and unlock, and iOS 4.2.1 compatibility for MobileSubstrate, it's now Cydia's turn to get iOS 4.2.1 compatibility, we'll have to wait just a bit until an official jailbreak is out followed by the new version of Cydia.

Add 3D Effect to Your iPhone / iPod Touch Homescreen with Barrel [Cydia Tweak]

Aaron Ash the developer behind Multifl0w app, has just developed a new amazing tweak which adds a 3D icon effect to the homescreen, the new tweak called Barrel, it has been tested on iOS 4.1 on all devices except the iPad due to some bugs caused by rotation.
The name is a play on "Beryl", which is both a mineral and the name of a Linux window manager that got merged with Compiz. Compiz was an inspiration for making this icon effect, if you haven't seen it's awesomeness in action

Barrel is available through the Cydia store for $2.99. To enjoy this tweak, your device must be jailbroken, you can follow our guide posted here to jailbreak your iOS device using Limera1n.

iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak and Unlock: What you Need to Know

As most of you know, Apple today has released iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch bringing multitasking to iPad, AirPlay, AirPrint, unified mail and some new features to iOS devices. Since I have received lots of questions about iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak and unlock, let's show you what's going on and what's your situation of jailbreaking.
iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak
There's no new tools released for iOS 4.2.1, but we tried the latest version of Redsn0w and it works on iOS 4.2.1 the same as it done iOS 4.2.1 GM, so you can follow our previous guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w and then use our guide posted here to patch Cydia and run it on iOS 4.2.1.
iOS 4.2.1 Unlock
Yes, the new version of Ultrasn0w should be released today, tomorrow or this week. It should come out a day or 2 days at most after iOS 4.2 is released (as promised), so we can see it anytime now.

In case you updated to iOS 4.2.1, you will notice that it's baseband is different from iOS 4.1's one but they both will be unlocked by the same tool as the new baseband doesn't catch any holes. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Save SHSH Blobs
If you’re on iOS 4.1 and jailbroken, by this point you should know how to save your SHSH blobs via TinyUmbrella to ensure untethered jailbreak as soon as iPhone hacker comex pull another trick out of his hat, the iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak is tethered on all iOS devices except iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) and non-MC iPod touch 2G.
Though all this, I highly recommend waiting to upgrade for the official tools, but if you feel the need to give it a try right now.

VoiceOver not only reads the name of the menu item you’re on, but it does a good job of reading metadata, including episode descriptions of TV shows. It definitely enables someone with vision problems to navigate through the Apple TV menu system.
