Jailbreak iOS 4.2 Untethered will be Available But Might be Delayed !

Early today, iOS 4.2 GM was seeded and we showed full how to guide to install it right now and jailbreak it using Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 but in case you followed our guides, you may noticed that Cydia is broken on iOS 4.2 so the jailbreak might be delayed until this problem is fixed, according to iPhone hacker comex. Among this bad news, there's other good news after the break.

However, a 4.2 jailbreak might be delayed because Cydia doesn't work on 4.2 yet. Not sure how close @chpwn is to finishing his fixes.

If you are one of our readers, you may know that all jailbreak tools on the web are based on Limera1n's exploit with the untethered hacks that Apple caught in iOS 4.2 and all jailbreaks became tethered (i.e. you have to jailbreak your device every time your iPhone is rebooted). But comex has announced in a tweet that in case you saved SHSH blobs of iOS 4.1, you will be able to get untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2. So, go ahead right now and follow our guide posted here to save your device's SHSH blobs to be able to get untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2 next week.

Anyone with blobs for 4.1 or earlier should be able to get an untethered 4.2 jailbreak; this is not done but is being actively worked on.

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G will Arrive After iOS 4.2 Official Release

We are waiting for the Greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1 which will be release by October 10 10:10 am GMT, you know as well that unfortunately, Greenpois0n will be able to jailbreak iPhone 4 and iPod touch on iOS 4.1, iPad on iOS 3.2.2 and may be Apple TV 2G ONLY. More precisely, Greenpois0n will not jailbreak iPhone 3GS nor iPod touch 3G on iOS 4.1, this limitation was due to the unavailability to use the SHAtter exploit with older devices.

But do not lose hopes, we reported you few hours ago that Comex the guy behind Spirit and JailbreakMe has userland exploit which will jailbreak iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G. Now the question is When we catch it?, Musclenerd has replied this question confirming that it wouldn't be before official iOS 4.2 is out. I think it makes sense that we see the new Comex userland jailbreak after iOS 4.2 official release, Why? Because the userland exploit can be easliy patched by Apple.

Those reading between the lines: Yes SHAtter itself is tethered. @comex came up with a way to untether it on 4.1/3.2.2

Another point to clarify, that Apple may convert the Greenpois0m jailbreak from untethered jailbreak to tethered jailbreak if it was able to patch the userland based method which discovered by Comex. So that the new Comex userland jailbreak tool will be for iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G mainly, and to re-untethered Greenpois0n jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad.

Few hours ago we detect some news flying around about the tethered status of the upcoming Greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad. now we can say that the new Greenpois0n is confirmed as untethered jailbreak (i.e. you will not need to connect your iPhone to your computer when you need to reboot).

New Untethered Userland iOS 4.1 Jailbreak On Its Way

May be we can call this HUGE especially when pod2g, the developer of SHAtter exploit, left the Chronic dev team and worked individually. Today, MuscleNerd has pretty much confirmed that Comex is still working on iOS 4.1 untethered userland jailbreak. After Redsn0w release yesterday to jailbreak iPhone 3G, and iPod touch 2G, someone has asked MuscleNerd if it support iPod touch 2G MC model as written on the blog. MuscleNerd answered him that it's supported but it's will be tethered until Comex release a new userland exploit.

Jonathan Kurtz asks MuscleNerd:

@MuscleNerd so redsn0w supports iPod touch 2g mc? Or is it a typo on the blog?

MuscleNerd replies:

@jonnyboywashere it does, but that ipt2g MC model will be a tethered JB at 4.1 until @comex releases a new userland exploit

This userland jailbreak from comex we already talked about when MuscleNerd confirmed that iOS 4.1 jailbreak coming from Comex. Then the talks changed when pod2g and p0sixninja came to the jailbreak scene, first, we published information about SHAtter exploit and USB based Greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1. But today, we can't decide who will jailbreak iOS 4.1 and we can't decide it's tethered or untethered. As usual we will keep you informed by any updates.

Comex on GreenPois0n's Tethered Status, “Don't Worry”

Let's get the hopes up! Comex, the well know iPhone hacker behind Spirit untethered jailbreak and JailbreakMe userland jailbreak has commented on GreenPois0n status (i.e. tethered, untethered). The conversion started between him and somebody asking him about his userland jailbreak for iOS 4.1, Comex replied saying that he will not release iOS 4.1 jailbreak. So, another guy asked him, what will users do if the jailbreak from chronic-dev is tethered. The answer was interesting!

Haywood Jablomi asks comex about the tethered status:

@xjerky Don't worry.

Of course this is not a confirm if it's tethered or untethered jailbreak, but at least it makes people more comfortable by using the word "Don't worry", so for all users who are worried about the jailbreak being tethered, just ask comex said don't worry. Pod2g Got a Bootrom Exploit to Jailbreak iOS 4.1

Yeah, Tweets were here and there about the exploit that will jailbreaks iOS 4.1, and here it come! Pod2g is the hacker which will jailbreak iOS 4.1 not Comex (as already told). It was crazy that he got the latest exploit just as 4.1 went public. But there's still lots of work to do before the release.

The new jailbreak is on it's way. Pod2G and p0sixninja were able to find a new boot level exploit, which means that Apple will no longer able to block the jailbreak unless they upgrade the hardware in all iOS devices as this exploit acts on the hardware itself. As usual, we will keep you informed whenever the jailbreak is available.

Next Jailbreak Will be From H0tB33f not Comex [Confirmed]

Well well, it was just some hours ago when we reported that the next jailbreak may not come from Comex. Now, p0sixninja confirms that in a tweet, the next jailbreak is not from Comex, it will from an old hacker in the iPhone dev team know as H0tB33f. This hacker started jailbreaking iPhones 5 months ago and he had an untethered jailbreak that time.

@cdevwill what do you mean? We all know the next JB will be from h0tb33fdev

The next jailbreak should follows the iOS 4.1 release today. The embedded video below shows the exploit that H0tB33f used to jailbreak iPhone 5 months ago, it may be the same exploit that will use to jailbreak iOS 4.1. Who knows!

Next Jailbreak May Not be From Comex

Just a quick heads up. Next jailbreak will not come from Comex, Yes, that' true! Come has just replied to someone telling him that he will donate to him whenever the next jailbreak is released. Comex said that the next jailbreak may not come from him. Full details posted below.

To be clear, Comex is not leaving, he just said that he may not jailbreak iOS 4.1 Although MuscleNerd confirmed that the next jailbreak will be userland jailbreak by Comex. Also we told you that there's two exploits (holes) in the wild, both by p0sixninja, one of them George Hotz used to jailbreak iPhone 4. The other is a bootrom exploit which acts on the hardware of the device itself not the iOS.

We don't know who will release the next jailbreak. As we know Geohot left the jailbreak scene two months ago, then his friend Mike Cohenn allowed the possibility of Geohot return by "Ra1n". Also, may be p0sixninja will be the next developer to jailbreak iOS 4.1 which will be released tomorrow. We will announce you by any update or anything happens, Stay tuned!

iOS 4.1 Userland Jailbreak Coming Soon?

You have been waiting for that! MuscleNerd has just said that comex will try to pull a trifecta by releasing a userland jailbreak similar to JailbreakMe to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for all devices but if he fails to do though, then a iBoot or bootrom exploits will be released.

Stephanos asked MuscleNerd about the type of iOS 4.1 jailbreak, userland jailbreak or a software jailbreak which runs under Windows / Mac

MusclNerd replied to him saying that Comex will release a userland jailbreak if he could pull trifecta

@TechXero it'll be userland JB if @comex can pull trifecta. Else, wait for new HW cycle (also remember: hole!=exploit)

There's no ETA but all what we know that the iPhone Dev Team are working hard on jailbreaking iOS 4.1 for all devices. If they failed to do though, they will release the ready-done jailbreak for iPhone 3G / 3GS (old bootrom) and iPod touch 2G / 3G (Non-MC models). For others, you may wait until iOS 4.2 release in November.

PDF Patch Fixes JailbreakMe 2.0 PDF Exploit for all iPhone, iPod Touch And iPad

Yesterday, Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 that solves the problem of security present on Safari which it was possible to obtain privileges that allow malicious code execution. The exploit, as you well know, has been used by Comex for the jailbreak of all devices. The new update, does not affect users of the iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G as iOS 4 is not available for these devices.

Therefore Apple did not consider these terminals in its updated and easy that people may exploit this flaw to create real options to JailbreakMe. To remedy this, Saurik has created a package on Cydia that fix the bug in all iDevices having any firmware version (even  iOS 2.x). PDF patch, this is his name, will be available soon ( after some more thorough testing).

Please note that by running the update on your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad, you will lose the ability to jailbreak your iDevice, especially if you do not have to save SHSH blobs, but if you already done so you can downgrade by following this guide.

Comex (iPhone DevTeam member), and the developer of the great JailbreakMe 2.0 Star which is the fastest and easiet way to do the jailbreak on iPhone iOS 4. He just sent a tweet with a download link to the JailbreakMe source code.

According to the latest twee from Comex, despite patches of Apple, users who want to jailbreak their iDevices have nothing fo fear. He also mentioned that it has 3 different exploits to jailbreak.

That was fun while it lasted. Hope you saved your SHSH. Remember that 4.1 rhymes with fun.

Others who now buy an iPhone with firmware 4.0.2 or higher, will probably wait until the release of major update before making the jailbreak unless the DevTeam and iH8sn0w not update Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze. Thus, iH8sn0w has alrealy published a screenshot showing the jailbreak on iOS 4.0.2

Even MuscleNerd has already said that latest version of Redsn0w which release in June 2010 is able to jailbreak 4.0.2 but only on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (non-MC model) by following guide posted here.

Steps:
Step 1: Install OpenSSH from Cydia by navigating to Search tab in Cydia and search for "OpenSSH" then install it.
Step 2: Connect your iPhone with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.
Step 3: Install Cyberduck for Mac or WinSCP for Windows, and enter the following details to log in:
Cyberduck

• Server: The IP address of your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch. Settings –> WiFi –>
• Username: root
• Password: alpine
• Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

WinSCP

• Hostname: The IP address of your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch. Setting –> WiFi –>
• User name: root
• Password: alpine
• Protocol: SCP

Step 4: Navigate to /var/root/Media directory and create a folder named “Cydia”. Inside this Cydia folder, create another folder and name it “AutoInstall” and copy the Frash-0.02.deb file (Download link at the end of the post)
Step 5: Restart your iPhone and enjoy Flash on your Safari browser by click on the “Flash” text to play the Flash content.

After logging into "Slide to Jailbreak" page, can't install?

• The solution for this problem is to power off and reboot your device several times till it work / Enable javascript in Safari may solve it too 

Wi-Fi is not working?

• Inspect the wireless router, reboot Wi-Fi and iPhone 4G as well as undo the network settings.  
• Note: If the selects in Wi-Fi is grey and show ”No Wi-Fi”, perhaps your BaseBand or Bootloader is broken, and the users use 2.0 above firmware need to reboot the ware

Stuck on Purple Screen when trying to jailbreak your device?

Apple has Developed a Fix for JailbreakMe, Coming in Next Update

JailbreakMe was released a couple of days ago with an exploit that works on a hole by downloading PDF files to install Cydia. Well, Apple has caught this exploit and it developed a fix to block JailbreakMe exploit from working. According to CNET,

On Wednesday an Apple spokeswoman said in a statement, "We're aware of this reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update."

So if you don't have an iPhone 4 then buy it now, If you didn't jailbreak your iPhone 4 yet then Jailbreak it right now (guide posted here) and Save your SHSH Blobs (guide posted here) Immediately for any future jailbreaks from comex that will get it's exploit using your SHSH Blobs. [via CNET]

 

Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 Released to Unlock iPhone 4 on Baseband 01.59.00

Planetbeing and MuscleNerd were working a lot the last few weeks to unlock our iPhone 4s on Baseband 01.59.00, they were waiting for comex's jailbreak to be released and it was released couple of days ago but there was some problems so the unlock was delayed! Now they just delivered the unlock and you can now free your iPhone 4 from AT&T Carrier with Ultrasn0w 1.0-1.
Note: For T-Mobile users, you have to Disable 3G Mode, Just touch on Settings --> General --> Network.

 

Upcoming Comex Jailbreak seems to be Released Today

Quick heads up, someone published this image on the web, we don't know it's source but it's seems not fake! Comex mentioned in his podcast interview that he is waiting for saurik to finish Cydia bootstrap, the screenshot below shows a message from saurik saying that he already gave the bootstrap to comex.

I actually gave comex the bootstrap he needed last night. so I am no longer the bottleneck. (The concept of “bottleneck” is very transient.)

It seems really close, may be it will be released today and Sunday be the FunDay? Absolutely they are running a group of tests on all devices to be sure it's safe and excellent to be released for public, so Stay tuned!

Jailbreak iPhone 4 on iOS 4.x is "Pretty Close to Done"

Good News to get the hopes up, in an all-star podcast interview with Comex, Planetbeing, Chpwn, and Saurik yesterday, Comex was asked "When is the iPhone 4 Jailbreak and Unlock is going to be released?", the answer was great "pretty close to done"

Question: When is the iPhone 4 Jailbreak and Unlock is going to be released?

Comex: You will have to ask Saurik if he’s done with that bootstrap yet. Like I hate to say this because people will be complaining, but it is pretty close to done.

PlanetBeing: Unlock is done. Just waiting for the jailbreak to be released.

Chpwn: The jailbreak definitely needs a lot of testing before it is released, to make sure it works on everybody’s phone, and that there are no issues like Spirit had where it deleted all of your photos in the first few days of the release.

Well, Planetbeing today has posted on his twitter account that he has already updated to iOS 4.0.1 on his iPhone 4and that was a good thing to find that it's unlockable with taller bars. This unlock is the one that Planetbeing used before and Musclenerd said that it's the best and they will use it on the new update for Ultrasn0w.

I updated to 4.0.1. Yay, taller bars and the unlock still works fine out of the box.

Jailbreak for iPhone 4 / 3GS on iOS 4 and iPad 3.2.1 Delayed

Well, this post wasn't important but I think most of you thought that Semi-Spirit Jailbreak for iPhone 4 would be out at the end of this week? nope, you may need to read this post.
